Airway Health & Your Child’s Smile

At myKIDSdds, we believe healthy smiles start with healthy breathing.

Your child’s airway health is closely connected to how they breathe, sleep, and grow. When breathing isn’t optimal, it can impact sleep, behavior, and development—not just teeth.

Our goal is simple: help your child breathe better, sleep better, and thrive.

Why It Matters

Quality sleep is essential for growing kids. When breathing is disrupted during sleep (often called sleep-disordered breathing), the body may not get the deep, restorative rest it needs.

Over time, this can affect focus, mood, growth, and overall health.

The American Dental Association encourages dentists to screen for sleep-related breathing concerns as part of a child’s overall health. Early awareness can make a meaningful difference in your child’s development.

What Is Sleep-Disordered Breathing?

Sleep-disordered breathing is a range of breathing issues that happen during sleep, from mouth breathing and snoring to more serious conditions like obstructive sleep apnea.

When airflow is limited, even slightly, the body may stay in a more alert state instead of fully resting. This can lead to restless sleep and ongoing fatigue, even if your child seems to sleep through the night.

Watch for these signs

You may notice:

  • Mouth breathing (day or night)
  • Snoring or noisy sleep
  • Restless sleep or frequent waking
  • Teeth grinding
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty focusing or ADHD-like symptoms
  • Irritability or mood changes
  • Persistent Bedwetting
  • Dark circles under the eyes

If something feels off, it’s worth taking a closer look.

Our Approach

At myKIDSdds, we take a proactive and personalized approach to airway health.

We evaluate how your child’s breathing, jaw development, and smile all work together—and guide next steps if needed.

During your child’s visit, we may:

  • Review sleep and breathing patterns
  • Perform a gentle, airway-focused exam
  • Identify signs of growth or development concerns
  • Recommend next steps or referrals if appropriate

Depending on your child’s needs, treatment may include:

  • Growth-guided orthodontic appliances
  • Myofunctional therapy (to support proper tongue and muscle function)
  • Habit correction, such as improving nasal breathing
  • Collaboration with ENT specialists or other health care providers

Our focus is always on early, gentle support that works with your child’s natural growth.

Let’s Take a Closer Look

Many parents are surprised to learn how much better their child sleeps—and feels—when breathing issues are addressed.

If you have concerns about your child’s sleep or breathing, we’re here to help.
