Why Offer Pediatric Sedation Dentistry?
At myKIDSdds, we understand what it takes to make a child feel comfortable in a new environment. For some children it simply takes time. For some children it can take sedation options.
We want every child to be comfortable, so accomplishing the goal of making children feel relaxed, and safe, is something we take very seriously! In efforts to provide your family with relaxing, enjoyable visits we offer three pediatric sedation dentistry options.
Oral Sedation vs.
Nitrous Oxide
Oral sedation is often given 20 minutes prior to a procedure and orally. Oral dental sedation helps your child to feel calm during their treatment. While there are mild side effects, oral sedation is very safe. We are here to help you care for your child after their procedure.
Nitrous Oxide — is another option for children’s sedation dentistry. It’s often called ‘laughing gas’ because it’s known for making patients giggly. This sedation option usually takes 5 minutes to take full effect. Once the medication sets in, your child will feel significantly more relaxed. After the procedure, the effects of the gas will be gone completely.
When Should I Ask for IV Sedation?
If the procedure is more complicated or if your child requires a heavier sedation level than ‘laughing gas’ or oral sedation can provide, we also offer IV sedation.
Our anesthesiologist will administer the sedative through IV, accounting for both body type and treatment needed. Similar to oral sedation, your child may still feel a little of the sedative after their treatment is complete. This is totally normal, and we’ll walk you through what you’ll need to do to care for your child after their procedure.
