What is the benefit of my child receiving orthodontic care?
Many people believe that orthodontic treatment is only cosmetically purposeful. An aesthetically beautiful smile is the most apparent result of treatment, but it’s not the only reason for your child to get braces. Straight teeth promote good oral health. Correctly aligned jaws allow proper chewing, speaking and breathing.
When should my child be evaluated for orthodontics?
We strongly agree with the AAO and recommend children have an orthodontic evaluation by age seven. This initial orthodontic evaluation will come at no cost to you. Seeing our orthodontic team will give us a head start to develop an action plan for your child’s unique treatment needs.
When will treatment begin?
Although your child may get evaluated at age seven, this is mostly to see how the mouth, jaw and teeth are developing. Most children do not get braces at seven. Early correction of other orthodontic issues allows braces treatment to begin at the ideal time. The perfect time for treatment to begin varies on a case-by-case basis. Establishing a relationship with our orthodontic team early allows us to watch your child’s oral development and recommend treatment at the proper time. Most braces treatment for children does not begin until between the ages of 9-16.
Can my little one’s smile be corrected without braces?
Sadly, once a child’s permanent teeth have fully erupted, their teeth can not be straightened without orthodontic treatment. Even as your child continues to grow and develop, their mouth only has so much room. Remember, your child has 20 baby teeth, but when their permanent teeth erupt, they will have up to 32 teeth, including wisdom teeth.
Can I afford orthodontics for my child?
Of course, you can! At your initial orthodontic evaluation, you will have the opportunity to sit down with our orthodontic coordinator, discuss your child’s treatment needs, and go over the cost of treatment.
